Feeding
I will give you a starter bag of the food I feed the bunnies when you take home your new bunny. You will need to get fresh feed, that's a good quality. Good quality rabbit feed should have 16% to 18% protein and have a minimum of 16% fiber. I feed my bunnies Pen pals. I get it at a feed store.. I buy 50 lb bags because I go through a bag a week. You can get smaller bags at pet stores.. Try not to change their feed a lot.. If you do it will upset their tummy. Bunnies have very sensitive tummies.. If you want to switch your particular brand, always transition them to the new brand over time.
How much you feed your rabbit depends on a few things. I generally let my babies eat as much as they like, up to when they are 3 months old. Bunnies under 6 months should never have any veggies, fruits or treats. This will cause them to have diarrhea.
Bunnies should have unlimited hay. I make sure mine have fresh hay everyday. I feed them timothy hay. I buy it at the feed store, but you can buy it at any pet store.
Housing
Holland lops can be in cages 24x24x18 and be ok, but I have mine in cages that are 36x36x36. You can purchase a cage at any pet store or you can choose to build one. We built all of our cages. Most cages need shavings on the bottom and I use pine shavings that I get at the feed store.. You will want to buy that at a feed store like Tractor Supply because it is way cheaper there. I pay $6 for a huge bag. Pet stores are more than double that price. You can also litter train your bunny and have it loose in the house, but you need to bunny proof your home first.. You can look up litter training on you tube.
Exercise
All bunnies should have exercise time out of their cage..
In the summer I put mine outside in a play yard. I stay out there and bring cages out to clean so I can watch them. They love to be outside. Just make sure you put a water bowl out there and don't leave them in direct sunlight.. I usually put them under a tree.. I let the kids in there with them to play.. The bunnies love play time..
In the winter I just let them run around the basement. I just block off where I don't want them to go. Make sure you don't have anything out that they can get hurt on.
Bunny Illnesses
Most illnesses are life threatening to bunnies and could kill it.
If they start showing any signs of being sick take it to a vet right away. What can look like a common cold to you can potentially kill your bunny.
